Manaus Bible School:
IBA (Instituto Biblica Apostolico - Apostolic Bible Institute) is growing quickly in Manaus. This year the student body peaked at just under 200 students. Under the directorship of Sis. Theresa DeMerchant, it has been producing preachers, preacher's wives and helpers for not only the Amazon region, but for the whole nation of Brazil.

A place where the mind and heart is challenged.At the bible school, the students receive teaching and instruction on a variety of different Biblically based subjects. They have classes in the evenings for 3 hours, 3 days a week. The teaching staff consists of local pastors from the area. This way the nationals are doing a big part of the work, which also promotes growth and allows them to make the most of their potential.
This year they have a great group of instructors: instructors at the school cover a wide range of pastoral ministries, such as the District Superintendent of Manaus, the National Treasurer of Brazil, the District Youth President, the Distirct Prayer Coordinator, etc. These students are recieving the highest possible quality training and instruction, and are well equipped, after two years of study to go into the work of the Lord.

The Bible School facilities in Manuas are located behind the Central Church, just a few blocks from where the first UPC service was held in Manaus 33 years ago (The DeMerchants' living room) The 2 year old building has the capacity to hold approximately 300 students, and already, they are looking towards future expansion...the space is filling up rapidly. God truly has used this Bible School, along with many others, to propagate this gospel throughout this region.


Bible schols throughout the country of Brazil are booming.Throughout this huge country, we continue to see the increasing accumulation of Bible Schools; the Brazilian people are planting Bible Schools like most places are planting churches. They have realized that the secret to growth and revival is training workers and placing them on the harvest field with a sharpened sickle. Because of this, churches and preaching points are being started throughout Manaus and in the interior.

In the 2000 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the 20 bible schools in the country of Brazil were 957. Pray that God will use and continue to call these young men and women who are winning this country to the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
